The Pearl

Classic Erotica: The Pearl by Anonymous

About The Book:

Among the first “Journals of Voluptuous Reading” to be spawned by the Victorians, this novel shows them as vastly different from their public image–beneath the facade of respectability and sexual repression there existed the strongest urge for sexual experimentation and enjoyment. First published in London in July 1879, The Pearl provided unrestrained erotica for every taste.

Our Review!

I was in high school the first time I got a copy of this book and I can’t tell you how many times I flipped through its pages late at night. Most of the stories are serialized and they’re divided between intense spanking/flogging stories and more general victorian erotica. There is a lot of incest (cousins, bothers/sisters, daddy/daughter etc) but for some reason it comes across as somewhat normalized. Also really fucking hot. Picture teenage cousins romping through the woods skinny dipping rather than creepy old uncles.

The poetry is more ridiculous than hot, and it is definitely full of old racist tropes. That said, if you like victorian settings, big sex parties, lots of orgies, and some caning and spanking, then you should get it. It’s a fun book to come back to over and over again. I have definitely gotten off to some of the stories in here multiple times.
